      Hallo zusammen,

      @Eric
: yes, that was exactly my problem. Once I changed the IP address, which I had done before but forgot that time around, the connection was established. Nonetheless, I still have to figure out why after 30 to 45 minutes the streamer becomes unreachable.

      All the best,
      Bruno

        Hallo zusammen,

        @rghanbari
: you are welcome. Glad to help, as little as it might be, around this great place!

And now that you mention it, I am not sure if it was the distance or my streamer, which does not like a 10Mb network…

          Hallo zusammen,

          @rghanbari
: i tried using WDS between a TL-WR802N as AP and a TL-WR902AC as client but although it worked when the two were in close proximity, it failed when I moved the TL-WR902AC to the „music room“.

So far, the 10Mb image does not work in my situation (streamer’s own limitation), and I have to find a way to keep my streamer reachable when using the 100Mb image. Regarding this one, the version I am using is the one that can be found here: https://ethernet-sound.com/forums/topic/tp-link-tl-wr902ac/page/25/, which to the best of my knowledge is the most recent one.

          All the best,
          Bruno

            Hallo zusammen,

It is me again… I could finally get the image to work: setting a new static IP for the TL-WR902AC did it, one in the same 192.168.1.XXX of the main router so Daphile and SoTM could communicate.

What I heard is promising, but out of a sudden the SoTM dropped out, the music ceased and all the enjoyment went to hell. I need to figure out now a way to prevent the SoTM from losing its internet connection so I can access it and Daphile can communicate with it too.

Another session not according to plan… but I guess it is part of this experimental journey…

            All the best,
            Bruno

              Hello Eric,

Thanks to you for all you have done for this hobby!

No, I have not conducted any more tests beyond the TL-WR902AC with 10Mb. Today I will finally test the 100MB image and see how this goes. I will keep it in mind though, although it seems more a SoTM issue than a TL-WR902AC thing…

              All the best,
              Bruno

All setup for tomorrow now: 100Mb image already flashed.

For those on the verge about trying the images but put off by the process: Eric’s tool made things super easy, but even doing it manually (easily more than 10 times already over here), it is straight forward:

                – Change your PC’s IP to 192.168.0.66

                – Use TFTP-Recovery: the transfer process takes 10 seconds tops.

                – Change your PC’s IP to 192.168.1.66

                – Follow Eric’s steps given here: https://ethernet-sound.com/openwrt-als-minimal-image-auf-dem-tp-link-tl-wr902ac-v3-v4/

                – Change your PC’s IP to dynamic once again and you should have Internet while connected to the TL-WR902AC. I typically go to speedtest.net to test the speed I am getting and at the same time know if I did OK while configuring the device.

                Two comments while at this:

                – If you get a warning error about connecting to 192.168.1.1. Use <ssh-keygen -R 192.168.1.1>. It is a security warning, but since it is us doing the process, clear it with the above command.

                – If for any reason you cannot get Internet, you might want to try changing the IP of the TL-WR902AC to something different to 192.168.1.1 as it might be already in use by your router. This did it for me.

Just a couple of things to have in mind: the process is not hard as it might seem the first time.

                All the best,
                Bruno

                  Hallo zusammen,

A late night further investigation revealed that I might be facing one single issue: SoTM uses a software whose minimum supported network speed is 100Mb. So, I might not be able to enjoy this party, nonetheless there still is Eric’s 100Mb image to play with.

On the other hand, I have been thinking about two different scenarios whose sense is uncertain:

                  1. TL-WR902AC feeding a switch from where the SoTM will get internet.

                  2. TL-WR902AC feeding the server where Daphile is installed and SoTM getting internet from the switch.

I imagine both situations are suboptimal and I should stick to the TL-WR902AC with a 100Mb image to feed the SoTM and be happy with it.

In any case, fun times are ahead now that I know the reason for my lack of luck yesterday.

                  All the best,
                  Bruno

                    Hallo zusammen,

After hours of trial and error, I got to say that no matter what I did, my SoTM, the streamer connected to the TP-Link, was unreachable so I was not able to test anything out…

@Eric: the config tool works great and it is easy to use. Kudos on it!

                    All the best,
                    Bruno

Without having anything valuable to add to this creative discussions, I cannot stand aside, as I applaud the time and efforts dedicated to these ideas and their crafting.

                      Chapeau, gentlemen!

                        Hallo Eric,

If available, I would be interested in the power supply. However, I was unable to find the way to send you a PM.

Thank you in advance and all the best,
                        Bruno

                          Hallo zusammen!

Thanks for the warm welcome Eric and my apologies for this late reply. Thanks for your suggestion too regarding what to implement in my system!

I have been reading some „old“ threads here and I wonder if you guys ever sorted out that discussion about non CE marked power supplies. I know the little TP Link draws little power but that thread worried me a bit.

On the other hand, I just realized that I might have to do some changes to my system to fully take advantage of this little giant as of right now a Mac Mini acts as a server and then a SOtM sMS-200 Ultra Neo as the streamer, sitting both in the same room. I mention this because otherwise the Mac would be receiving the data from the TP Link to then pass it to the SOtM, which given the nature of computers and their noise would not be that ideal after all.

Just for clarity, this is my digital audio path:

ISP router —> Asus router —> TP Link switch —> NAS —> Powerline —> Netgear switch —> Mac Mini —> Netgear switch (with iFi iPower X)  —> SOtM sMS-200 Ultra Neo (with SOtM sPS-500 PSU) —> DAC

It all started much simpler, but around eighteen months ago I read about cheap consumer switches and how cascading them could help. I added them slowly and, although I have not removed them to test their effect, I remember the sound improving after each change so I just left them in place.

Lastly, do you think another round of ES Lan isolators would be possible? I got late to the party but it sure would be nice to have one! I know I am a new member over here, but if somebody would like to part with an isolator, I would be happy to take care of it.

                          Thank you, once again.

                          All the best,
                          Bruno

                            Hallo zusammen,

First of all, thank you for having me.

I have been reading the forum for the last couple of days, after discovering, by mere luck I think, the findings about the TP Link TL-WR902AC in another forum, and this is a somewhat short introduction of myself.

My name is Bruno and I live in Chile. I have been around music since I was a teenager and once the funds allowed it I started the quest to enjoy music through a dedicated system almost eleven years ago now. Nonetheless, only in 2023 the hobby really picked up for me when I completely changed my system and started to look for tubes and then cables to fine tune what, for me, is a nice piece of kit.

My system is completely digital and, perhaps even subconsciously, I have been thinking about how to improve it for a while now. It is not that I feel or think there is something wrong with it, it is just the burning question about what else could it give, without going bankrupt.

Long story short, a TP Link TL-WR802n is coming my way, however I still do not know how I will be powering it, because as much as I would like to go down the 3.3V route, I have zero electrical knowledge and I plan to keep being alive… 😀

I have been reading about linear PSU but I am not yet convinced by any and the battery power is something I keep stumbling upon. Besides that, the Drosselkabel picked up my interest so I will try to gather all its components to build one and fun with it.

At last, I like to think that it is not necessary to put a mortgage over the house to achieve a great sounding system and I that regard I think I cannot thank you enough folks for all your hard and tireless work and for sharing it with us, so we can learn and enjoy of our systems even more.

Thank you, once again and I hope to see you around.
