kurzes Update zum WR802N:

Heute mal eine kurze Messung der Störungen im vergleich zum WR902AC gemacht und das hatte der WR802N etwas die Nase vorn – aber noch mit Vorsicht zu genießen, da ich das nochmal wiederholen muss.

Der WR802N hat m.E. zwei Vorteile: a) geringer Stromverbrauch und b) ist er bei mir schneller gebootet als der WR902AC

Hallo zusammen

So, der LT3045 Linearregler ist im 902 verbaut. Habe ihn mit Wärmeleit-Klebestreifen auf das Abschirmblech geklebt, da kühlt er besser. Die Wärmeentwicklung ist ok, wird etwas mehr als handwarm. Im Bild links unten zu sehen, mit den 3 Kabeln. Passt also.

Could you post pictures showing exactly which points to desolder to discard the original switching regulator on a V4?  Also, where did you purchase the LT3045 linear regulator?  Just to be absolutely certain…  Once the regulators have been swapped, the original factory installed power port can be used as long as the new power supply is 3.3v, correct?

Hallo zusammen,

hier schonmal für alle interessierten, der Mod für die 3.3V Einspeisung beim WR802N – der auch so beim WR902AC alternativ angewendet werde kann.

Hierbei wird der Schaltregler und auch die dahinterliegende Spule ausgelötet. das ist etwas fummelig ohne Heissluftstation, aber machbar. Beim Regler kann man vorsichtig die Beine abcutten und dann auslöten. Bei der Spule kann man zuerst vorsichtig die Gehäuseoberseite entfernen und dann die Spule in der Mitte durchtrennen. Das ist aber mit vorsicht zu machen, damit die Lötpads nicht kaputt gehen oder abgerissen werden.

Dann muss man den VIN Pin / Pad mir dem Augangspad der Spule wie im Bild eingezeichnet Brücken mit einem Draht – ich habe hierzu einen Lackdraht genommen.

Jetz muss man über den Micro-USB eingang 3.3V einspeisen.

Steckt man aus versehen eine 5V Spannungsquelle ein, dann kann man direkt einen neuen bestelle – also vorsicht.

Hallo zusammen,

vielleicht kann ein WR902AC Nutzer weiterhelfen?

Ich habe bei meinem modifizierten WR902AC doch entgegen meiner letzten Annahme OpenWRT laufen.
Ich wollte jetzt mal auf 5GHz umstellen, kann aber das 5GHz Interface nicht finden.
Dann habe ich das TP-Link Firmware nochmal aufgespielt und auch hier kann ich das 5GHz Interface nicht aktivieren, bzw. funktioniert dieses nicht.

Hat dies schonmal jemand erlebt?

Noch ein Hinweis: Ich hatte ja den WR902AC mit dem WR702N vergleichen – beide mit 3.3V Ian Canada Versorgung. Hierbei war mit der WR702N etwas nervöser vorgekommen. Eventuell liegt das daran, das auf dem WR902AC OpenWRT installiert ist und auf dem WR802N noch die Original Firmware.
Ich bin aktuell dabei beim WR802N auch OpenWRT zu installieren und werde dann nochmal testen.

Schon beim WR902N war mir am Anfang eine grössere Klangruhe mit dem openWRT aufgefallen – ich dachte jedoch das dies mit dem Beacon Bug zusammen hängt.

Hi Eric,

Regarding 5ghz on 902 AC. I have the V4 and I recently updated to the latest openwrt 24.10.4 firmware. It supports 5ghz natively and works without an issue. Maybe this helps.

Thank you for sharing. Interesting to see that he came to the same conclusion about the 5 GHz frequency with a narrow channel as the best option! Though from a different perspective. For me it was the option with least interference and least retries. It’s a nice benefit to know it is the option with least impact on all the components. Will check the firmware he is using. Actually, now I’m debating whether to get the Aruba 324 (sister model with external antennas) and do a test with a directional antenna on both the 324 and the 902ac to reduce the interference from the surrounding and to the equipment even further.

Hi Eric,

I’m case you meant Bosko, then yes, I use an external directional antenna for the 902ac. It gives around a 10db boost. Actually, I am testing a new orientation and the 902ac antenna power is set to zero dB.

External antenna for the 902 @ 5GHz is very intriguing.  Do you have a link to the antenna you use?  I’m trying to recall where the antenna mount point is on the 902.

I just got my Aruba IAP-325 AP working (vanilla) and about to start experimenting with various configs.  I’m intrigued by the 5GHz feedback from Bosco and Chris and others, this could be very interesting (Bosco or others, if you have an Aruba config that is shareable, please do…would love to learn from the learnings you’ve had so far with the Aruba!)
