    Greetings from England, this is my first post here. I have greatly enjoyed this forum, since I have been using exclusively online streaming for many years and like most of you here, I found very large improvements when I started to experiment with ethernet. I am fortunate to have, I think, a well implemented and highly resolving HiFi system which shows up small changes to my network setup.

     

    I found a nice unexpected gain with a version of the throttle V2 on the clean output of my Ether Regen, even though for the last metre I still use a Shunyata ethernet cable featuring 2 common mode choke elements in its design.. This is still under development at my side.

     

    <span style=““>What I would like to report is my finding concerning my modem. I am in a semi rural location with fibre only to the local supply cabinet, then copper wire to my property – hence I use a DSL modem and get about 40Mbps. I experimented with my own design of throttle cable between the „master socket“ in the house, and the DSL input on the modem – usually this is a very cheap rj11 phone cable, in my case a 2 metre length. For the throttle cable, I used about 3 metres of Neotech OCC/PTFE 26awg wire and wound it 12x Bi-filar onto a Kemet Toroid ESD-R-613325H-NC23. The remaining cable either side of the Kemet was then hand twisted (I am aware this is very sub-optimal). Between the toroid and the modem RJ11 termination, I placed a series of 5 Kemet ferrite sleeves ESD-R-14S, each with 2x winding. I also place 2 of the same sleeves on the „master socket“ side of the cable. There is nothing to say about my choices for this design, it was arbitary and I already had the Neotech wire. I have no equipment to measure this cable.</span>
    The listening surprised me greatly, given that I use a cascade of highly optimised ethernet switches and multiple fibre implementations in my network. I don’t go for audiophile descriptions – suffice to say the sound changed with all the expected effects of a lower noise floor – it sounded louder and all elements displayed a degree of improvement. I have „sanity checked“ this impression on several occasions and I always return to this „DSL throttle cable“ at the very front of the chain, even before we convert to ethernet.

     

    I am therefore sharing this finding in case anyone here uses DSL and might like to try it for themselves. I will continue to develop this cable and welcome any ideas – I don’t mind even if you think it is a misplaced idea on my part – I am here to learn!
